Every year the New York State Education Department releases information on the mapping of the grades 3-8 test questions to the standards. This is important because it helps educators understand what is being tested and gives us a glimpse into the test design. Combined with the released questions (approximately 75% of the tests) this can be a powerful resource for educators in developing appropriately rigorous curriculum.
This year the standards mapping was similar to last years. But both years were significantly different than prior years test mapping. The most significant change is the absence of any test questions mapped to standard 1 (identify text based details/inferencing). We speculate that it may be because standard 1 skills are embedded in most questions.
